Primavera Sound

Primavera Sound, or simply Primavera, is an annual music festival that takes place in Barcelona, Spain in late May and, in some years, early June. The festival is held within the Parc del Fòrum leisure site—located approximately 6 km north east from the center of Barcelona—in the Diagonal Mar area of the Sant Martí district, by the coast of the Balearic Sea. The event is one of the largest music festivals in Spain, with an attendance rate of more than 100,000 over the course of the event in 2010.
The festival is noted for its eclectic lineup, focus on independent music, and as a showcase for newly established international and domestic acts. The range of musical genres include alternative, indie, electronic, pop, hip hop, dance, folk, jazz, metal, and experimental music. Notable acts that have performed at previous editions include Arcade Fire, The National, Sonic Youth, The White Stripes, Primal Scream, New Order, Iggy and the Stooges, Lou Reed, Motörhead, The Smashing Pumpkins, Portishead, Neil Young, Pavement, Pet Shop Boys, Pulp, The Cure, and Blur.
A second festival, NOS Primavera Sound, was introduced in 2012 by the promoters of the Barcelona edition. The event takes place in Porto, Portugal over the weekend following the Barcelona edition, and shares a similar line-up of acts.
==Overview==

The first edition of the festival took place on 28 April 2001, featuring acts such as Armand Van Helden and Los Planetas. The event was officially titled Estrella Damm Primavera Sound, owing to the festival's main sponsor, Estrella Damm; this sponsorship lasted until the 2009 edition. San Miguel succeeded as the main festival sponsor for the 2010 event and, as a result, the official name was changed to San Miguel Primavera Sound until the 2012 edition.
The event was originally held in the grounds of the outdoor architectural museum Poble Espanyol, located on the mountain of Montjuïc approximately 4 km south west from the center of Barcelona. In 2005, the festival moved to its current location at Parc del Fòrum, the site of the inaugural Universal Forum of Cultures. In 2010, the event returned to Poble Espanyol when it began holding pre-event concerts and the festival closing party at the site; these take place on the Wednesday and the Sunday respectively on the week when the main event takes place.
Full festival tickets admit the buyer to all days of the festival as well as all pre-event concerts and the festival closing party. Day tickets are also made available after most of the line up has been announced. Both ticket types are usually made available on sliding price scale, increasing on specified dates closer to the event. Unlike other European music festivals, no camping facilities are available on-site. The El Maresme-Fòrum station on Barcelona Metro line 4 is located close to the festival site.
The main event has come to hold approximately 7–8 stages. All stages are held outdoors, with the exception of the Auditori. This stage is hosted in the Forum Building, an architectural landmark designed by Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron, located at the entrance of Parc del Fòrum. The Auditori has a seating capacity of 3,200.
